Cart's SinkorSwim - handsome 9yo chestnut gelding

Cart's SinkorSwim - handsome 9yo chestnut gelding

Cart's SinkorSwim, or Swimmer (as we call him) is really in need of help.  His last owner more or less abandoned him and his friend Private Dance.  Their feet are a mess, their manes were down to their shoulders, but they are being taken care of now and ready for their new homes.  ... Read more

Private Dance - one start at the track - lovely 9yo chestnut mare, very cute

Private Dance, aka Dancer, along with her friend Cart's Sinkorswim, was sadly neglected and abandoned at the track by her previous owner.  Her feet are a mess (they are now trimmed) and her mane was very long, but she's being taken care of now and is much happier. ... Read more

Tokyo Chiller, lovely 4yo dappled grey COLT

Tokyo Chiller is indeed one chill dude. He handled well for us and has nice ground manners.   He is a 4 year old colt and was lightly raced (4 starts total, 3 in 2012 and 1 in 2013).  He is a lovely dappled grey and stands approximately 15.2 or 15.3 hands (he is still growing too).  ... Read more

Sherrae, 3 year old chestnut filly with chrome

Sherrae is a sweet young thing, 15.3 hands and growing.  She turned 3 on May 26th, so she's still just a baby!  She is lightly raced with 4 career starts, (1 start in 2012 and 3 starts in 2013).  She has a great build, nice markings and is a lovely mover.     Read more

PRESS RELEASE – CANTER USA – ASPCA GRANT

CANTER USA has been chosen by ASPCA to receive a generous grant related to the ASPCA "Rescuing Racers Initiative" which will enable CANTER affiliates across the country to "Rehab – Retrain – Rehome" Thoroughbreds that are non-competitive on racetracks nationwide.

2012 is the third year ASPCA "Rescuing Racers Initiative" has selected CANTER U.S.A. for this prestigious grant that literally saves the lives of hundreds of Thoroughbreds. CANTER is comprised of professionals and other horse enthusiasts who donate their time and expertise to CANTER.

CANTER has no paid staff, so every dollar donated or granted is spent to transition thoroughbreds. Each Thoroughbred's expenses to CANTER range from $2,000 to $6,000 or more until it is retrained and ready for adoption to a CANTER approved home.

Thoroughbreds coming into the CANTER program are given rehabilitation, farrier care, Veterinary evaluation and basic training in walk, trot and canter. Each thoroughbred is then evaluated for its potential career. Most of these equine athletes find new careers as Sport Horses. Many former CANTER thoroughbreds are now competing in Hunter, Jumper, Eventing, Cross Country and Dressage leaving behind their racing careers for careers as Sport Horses. ASPCA and CANTER USA together helping Thoroughbreds!
