So a horse born in 1997 who has been tattoed (not all TBs are tattooed - generally just those that go to the track, train and have been entered in a race - but this varies by racing jurisdiction) would possibly have the tattoo number A12345 (A = alpha designation for horses born in 1997; 97 = actual year of birth; 12345 = horse's registration #). Sometimes these can be hard to read depending on the age of the horse (like human tattos, they fade with age) and how good the tattoo person was.

To find out more about a horse via his/her tattoo, call the Jockey Club at 1-800-333-1778 or check their website at http://www.equineon line.com or http://www.jockeycl ub.com. They generally charge a fee for any research.

FOSTER Homes Needed

CANTER Mid Atlantic is trying to pull as many horses off the track as possible, but we need your help. We are full to the gills and need foster homes in the Mid-Atlantic area that can take horses on short notice. If you can help, please email us.

Volunteers Needed

CANTER Mid Atlantic is looking to fill some volunteer positions at the racetrack. If you have one Saturday free a month to dedicate to assisting racehorses find new homes, and are comfortable with viewing hundreds of gorgeous horses each time without taking them all home, we've got the job for you! Email us today to find out when our next trip is. Sorry, but we can only take folks who are 18 or older due to track regulations.
